Arsenal always mess things up in big games-Markus Babbel

Ozil is weak, Podolski is lazy and Arsenal are bottlers, says Bayern favourite Babbel

Former Bayern Munich defender Markus Babbel has issued a damning assessment of Arsenal’s chances in Wednesday’s Champions League showdown.

The Bundesliga giants travel to the Gunners in a repeat of last season’s last-16, which they comfortably won 3-1, but despite Arsenal’s insistence that they’re a different animal this time around, Babbel disagrees.

Asked if he thought Arsenal were stronger, Babbel, who made 170 appearances for Bayern, replied: ‘No. And they’ve got a lot of injuries. If Bayern concentrate, they won’t have any problems.

‘You see it in the Premier League: Arsenal always mess things up in big games.’

The ex-Liverpool defender was also critical of fellow countryman Mesut Ozil, saying he ‘still needs to work on his physicality’, and expressed his surprise at how well Lukas Podolski had settled in the Premier League.

‘I didn’t think he’d make it in England, to be honest, he was always far too lazy at Bayern and Cologne’, added Babbel.
