Alarming Pictures of Flooding in U.K.


The battering rain and relentless flooding has forced people to flee their homes, wreaked chaos on the railways and destroyed much of the British landscape.

 These alarming pictures show the extent of the destruction that towns, countryside and coast have suffered from the extreme weather.

 More than 1,600 members of Britain's armed forces have been put on standby to help communities wrecked by flooding, with 1,000 people forced to leave their homes in the South West and Thames Valley.

 More than 5,000 properties flooded as the deluge sweeps southern England as local authorities and communities battle to stem the tide.

 And the worst is not yet over - more rain is predicted and water levels are continuing to rise...
