Buhari Unhappy With Election Postponement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it would no longer accept any further postponement in the election dates under any guise or excuses.

Following the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the 2015 general elections by six weeks, from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11, the party said the commission's autonomy has been greatly impaired by the military's threat not to give it security guarantee for the cancelled Saturday's Presidential polls.

Addressing Journalists at APC presidential campaign office in Abuja on Sunday,  the presidential candidate, General Muhammedu Buhari (rtd), said the PDP administration has engineered a postponement using the threat that security will not be guaranteed across the country.

"We will not tolerate any further interference because it is constitutional. INEC had played its last card. So, if is up to the government to empower the military to make sure that INEC feel secured and the constituents feel secured enough to go and vote," he said.

Speaking on the alleged change of position by INEC, the Buhari said from all indications the commission acted as if it was compelled by outside force.

"I am a member of the National Council of States and INEC gave us a comprehensive plan of their readiness to go ahead with the elections. INEC is the body that will organise and conduct elections in this country.

" It is up to the government to secure INEC."
