It is no longer news that Uruguay defeated Italy 1 – 0 in the last match of Group D to see them qualify for the round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The result sees Italy going home, and Uruguay moving on.
However, the talking point of the match will remain that moment when Luis Suarez, unarguably a good striker, once again stunned the world by planting his teeth on the shoulder of the Italian player, Giorgio Chiellini.
Several replays show that the Referee did not see the incident, which normally would have necessitated a sending off.
No doubt the next few days will see FIFA coming up with a pronouncement on the rather unfortunate incident, which brings back the memories of Suarez biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.
Suarez was suspended for 10 games in England for the attack on Ivanovic.
Earlier in 2010, he had bitten a PSV player in Holland, and was susbsequently suspended for seven games.
