People do think I was born a man

'People think I was born a man': Wendy Williams said she 'gets' why people mistake her gender in an ABC News interview on Thursday

She is famed for her larger than life personality.

And Wendy Williams has claimed the fact she is also taller than average has caused people to 'think I was born a man.'

The chat show host made the admission during a revealing interview in which she said admitted she prefers the quiet life to schmoozing with stars.

The 49-year-old told ABC News: 'People do think I was born a man. That is absolutely not [true]. I get it. I've got a strong face, a strong body, I'm 5ft 11in. I wear wigs.'

'I get where that comes from, but in my opinion, there's no worse way to insult a woman than by saying she looks like a man.

'But once a woman gets over that, there is no stronger woman.'

The mother-of-one made the admission as she discussed her new stand-up comedy show Lipschtick, which debuts in at the posh The Venetian casino in Las Vegas on Friday, in which she says she will pull no punches.

She claims the jokes will be 'the Wendy no one has ever seen,' with painful times from her past being used as a source of levity.

She admitted: 'I had a very tortured childhood. I was tortured, they fat shamed me.

'So, I want to talk about growing up. I want to answer the big question about the boobs.

'People know they are breast implants, but a lot of people, I read and see, "You've lost so much weight now, you need a breast reduction."

'I will answer you straight and direct, if you are in Vegas.'

She claimed having her own comedy show has been a long-held ambition and was something she wanted to do before turning 50 later this month.

Wendy said: 'I've always been told I was funny. So, I said, "I would like to do an evening of stand up."'

Not a fan: She may have had Jessica Alba on the show but Wendy said she cannot stand to be around celebrities

The former radio shock jock also claimed she stays away from celebrities as it would affect her ability to do her show,

and that she prefers to go back to her native New Jersey when not filming so she can 'mind my own damn business.

She said: 'I didn't grow up the popular girl or the popular cheerleader. I've never been to a prom, I didn't have a lot of boyfriends, so I'm used to being on this side of life.'
