The Beckhams have bought late fashion designer Gianni Versace’s mansion in Miami for a reported £36million.
Versace, who was gunned down by a serial killer in 1997, paid £6million for Casa Casuarina in 1992 but spent another £20million acquiring the property next door and remodelling them both.
Built in 1930, the house was inspired by the Alcazar de Colon, the colonial palace where explorer Christopher Columbus’ family lived.
The 10-bedroom property, which opened as a hotel in 2009, boasts unobstructed sea views, a pool lined with gold, an observatory and a baroque sculpture garden.
David and Victoria, close friends with Versace’s sister Donatella, have been looking for a base in
Miami after Becks was unveiled as the owner of a MLS football team there last month.
The 23,000-square-foot mansion is reportedly decked out with hand-painted frescoes, Italian marble and a gold-and-marble toilet.
Beckham outlined plans for a new Miami-based MLS soccer franchise last week.
No date has been set for the team to enter the league yet though.
The former Manchester United and England midfielder was reported last month to be looking into a deal that will take Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Major League Soccer in three years’ time.
