Police sources told PUNCH Metro that Elvis, who is a member of a security outfit, Merchant Navy, began acting strange after his arrest.

A police source at the Meiran Division, said, “When we first arrested the man (Elvis), he started acting strange.
“The act was meant to convince the police that  he was mentally ill. He was even jumping all over the place.

“It was later that his landlady and some other neighbours came to the station to tell us that he (Elvis) was only pretending that he was ill. Elvis has, however, stopped acting strange.”

Our correspondent learnt that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.

Elvis had allegedly locked his son, Godrich, in a room at their home on Adetola Adelaja Street, Meiran area of Lagos padlocked his mouth and beat him to death, claiming that the boy was evil.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, expressed shock over the killing.

Braide said the suspect would undergo a test to determine his mental state.

She said, “Some people had reported at the Meiran Police Division that the suspect was chasing his girlfriend with a dagger. When policemen arrived at the scene, they did not see the girlfriend, but saw Elvis and entered his house.

“Neighbours told the policemen that something was wrong as they could not find the little boy. So, the policemen searched for the boy, but Elvis said he was at a hospital.

“However, police entered a room and saw two mattresses on the floor. The boy was found dead inside the torn mattress on the floor. His lips were perforated and was padlocked while his body was inflicted with burns from a pressing iron.

“The suspect will undergo a mental test soon.”
