Sibi
Gwar’s 76th minute header after a goal mouth scrabble ensured that
Enyimba of Aba won this year’s Nigeria Professional League Super Four
Cup in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Peoples’ Elephant edged out Glo
Premier League rivals Kano Pillars in a tough final day duel to earn
maximum nine points in the three day league. The Zakari Baraje led boys
did everything to break the resolute Pillars’ defence but could not
until substitute Sibi Gwar nodded in the only goal of the match.
Enyimba finished top of the league table
by winning their three matches. They won the first against Bayelsa
United 3-0; they beat Warri Wolves 2-0 and completed the run on Tuesday
with a 1-0 win over Pillars.
Wolves garnered six points from three
matches after winning their last day match against Bayelsa United 2-1 to
finish second on the four-team log.
Pillars could only manage three points
which came off a win over Bayelsa United from their three matches to
place third while Bayelsa United had no point from the matches and thus
ended up at bottom of the table.
The Super Four trophy was handed to the
captain of Enyimba, Chinedu Udoji, by the Chairman of the League
Management Company, Nduka Irabor, after the match.
The Super Four competition heralds the start of a new league season in the country.
