Abuja varsity courses now accredited -VC

Prof. James Adelabu, Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, said all its programmes now enjoy the full recognition of professional bodies and the National Universities Commission.
Adelabu made the remark at the 2012/2013 matriculation of its students in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Thursday.

He called on the students to show support and understanding with the present administration of the institution.

He advised them to always resist actions that could lead to the destruction of property and disruption of academic calendar.

“The doors of the university administration are always open to you for any genuine complainants or suggestions, just as your lecturers are always willing to guide you,” he said.

The VC said the university had within its limited resources, tackled most of the challenges confronting the new students.

He identified such problems as lack of accommodation, transportation and the provision of basic amenities such as water and electricity, among others.

Adelabu recalled that in April 2012, three of the university’s programmes: medicine, veterinary medicine and engineering, were suspended for lack of proper learning facilities.

The suspension was reversed after the university convinced the NUC that it could rectify the defects within six months.

He stated that the Faculty of Engineering which posed serious problem due to its non- recognition by NUC, had an arrangement to move the students to other universities with requisite facilities.

He said that the university had been cleared and would commence admission of students for engineering courses as from 2013/2014 academic session.

About 2,500 students participated in the university’s 22nd matriculation.
